Dad charged after son scalded in sink

A Fort Wayne man accused of burning his infant boy with scalding hot water was formally charged Thursday in Allen Superior Court with neglect of a dependent.

Dajour D. Jackson, 19, of the 920 block of Savilla Avenue, told police in March he put his then-29-day-old son in a sink of standing water and turned on a faucet to bathe him.

Jackson told police he may have accidentally turned off the cold water faucet while water was running down his son’s back.

The boy was brought to a hospital with blistering skin. Detectives tested the faucet where Jackson bathed the boy and found it could reach 138 degrees in 45 seconds, court documents said.

Detectives further found three water heaters in Jackson’s basement, all turned to high, court records said.
