NCAA releases coaches APR

The NCAA released its coaches Academic Progress Rate data Thursday.

Men's basketball coach Tom Crean, in his first year with Indiana, had a score of 975, well above the 940 team average.

The previous season, Kelvin Sampson had a score of 811. The national team average was 933.

IU football coach Bill Lynch exceeded the national team average in his first two years. In 2007, he had a score of 979, compared to the 939 national team average. He had a score of 957 for 2008-09. The national average was 944.

The baseball team has also topped the national team average each of the past three years, including a perfect score of 1,000 for 2008-09. Women's basketball coach Felisha Legette-Jack has a perfect score of 1,000 the last two years.

The head coach APR includes baseball, football, men's and women's basketball, and women's indoor and outdoor track and field. It does not assess additional penalties for a team or coach. Interim head coaches are not included. The system will expand to all Division I sports after the 2010-11 academic year.

The APR measures eligibility, retention and graduation. An APR of 925 projects to an NCAA Graduation Success Rate of about 60 percent.
