This year's cilantro went straight to seed.

Save some and scatter the rest

The cilantro I grew from last summer's harvest of seeds didn't have much foliage and went straight to seed. I had hoped for some leaves to add to this summer's salsa.

I ended up collecting the seeds instead and putting the whole seeds in some curry and lentil dishes. I might try again with some of the seeds I collected to grow cilantro next spring, or maybe I will buy some seed for another variety of cilantro.

I had better luck with seeds saved from a red pepper plant last summer. They grew well this spring plus I managed to get yellow and burgundy pepper plants from a pack of mixed color pepper seeds. I am saving seeds from these peppers so that I can make sure that I have the same variety next year.

I have also collected some seeds from my clematis plant. It is a perennial and will come back up next summer, but I would like to add more plants. I will start some plants indoors next March.

My bachelor buttons seed themselves and come up early in the spring. I scatter some of the seeds from this year's plants and am saving some seeds to plant next spring. There always seems to be enough even after the finches are done feeding on the plant.

I am going to try to harvest a variety of seeds so that I don't have to buy that many next March.
