No illegals here

Gov. Mitch Daniels last week appointed Susana Duarte De Suarez to the Indiana Commission for Higher Education. She looks to be an excellent pick: President and CEO of a communications company with executive experience in several Fortune 500 companies and public-sector experience with FEMA. An Ohio State grad, she was chief communications officer for the Peace Corps.

What caught my attention, however, was this line: "She is a U.S. citizen born and raised in Mexico City, Mexico."

In the same news release, there was no mention of the resident status of a West Lafayette businessman appointed to the Purdue board of trustees.

What a sad comment on our political climate that the governor's office must cite U.S. citizenship in a news release announcing a superbly qualified individual who happens to be Hispanic.
