Nevada broadcasters cancels U.S. Senate debate

Sharron Angle, the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate for Nevada

CARSON CITY, Nev. — The Nevada Broadcasters Association is canceling its U.S. Senate debate between Harry Reid and Sharron Angle because the campaigns cannot agree on a date.

Association President Bob Fisher on Friday said the group has been negotiating with the campaigns since June and proposed a date of Oct. 21 for a debate in Las Vegas.

He says Angle's campaign wanted it before early voting begins Oct. 16. Reid's campaign countered the Democratic majority leader couldn't guarantee his attendance any earlier because the Senate could still be in session.

Another debate, tentatively set for Oct. 19 in northern Nevada, is to be sponsored by Sunbelt Communications and the Las Vegas Sun.

Sunbelt Vice President Bob Stoldal says Reid has agreed to the date, but the Republican nominee has not confirmed her participation.
