Mom’s Night Out all about fun, relaxing

– Here’s a cliché for you: moms and bubble baths.

We don’t know about you, but we’re pretty sick of hearing that bubble baths are the best remedy for reducing mommy-related stress. Every mother knows that slipping into a hot tub may sound luxurious, but after about 10 minutes, choruses of “She’s touching me!” and “Can the cat eat some of my chili?” can force a mom to sigh and reach for a towel.

What moms really need is a night out – one filled with chocolate fountains, belly dancing, shopping and food (cooked by somebody else for once).

So here’s your opportunity, ladies.

Parenting in Fort Wayne magazine and Fort Wayne Newspapers is sponsoring the second annual Mom’s Night Out, an evening where a taste for chocolate, a love of jewelry and a desire to have fun is necessary – but the designation of “mom” isn’t.

“You can be a mom, a sister, an aunt, a best friend or even just live next door to a mom,” says Lisa Goodman, marketing/niche products director for Fort Wayne Newspapers. “It doesn’t matter. We’ve had entire families show up – a grandma, two daughters, a sister-in-law or two. It’s just a fun evening for everyone – including moms-to-be.”

This year, the event will feature more than 70 vendors, ranging from health and beauty services to clothing and accessories retailers. Food samples are free at the event, and include gourmet coffees, chocolate and an Asian noodle bar. Entertainment will be provided by local folk artists Sunny Taylor and Ivory West.

“It’s a night for moms to relax and have fun and get a little pampering,” Goodman says. “And it’s an opportunity to spend time with your girlfriends and celebrate motherhood.”

New this year is a photo booth where attendees and their friends or family can have a strip of pictures taken as a memento of the evening. Also, a mommy-and-me fashion show and belly dancing and Zumba demonstrations are scheduled.

“Last year’s Zumba demonstration had people dancing in the aisles,” Goodman says. “It was such fun. This year we’re expecting the same thing – a good, fun night to be with friends, family and other moms.”
