Redshirt sophomore Caleb TerBush has been ruled academically ineligible and won't play this season for the Boilermakers, the school said in a news release.
TerBush was the team's backup quarterback to Robert Marve. TerBush played in one game -- and was 4 of 10 for 22 yards against Wisconsin -- as Joey Elliott's backup last season.
TerBush earned the team's "most improved" award in the spring for the offense.
With TerBush out, redshirt freshman Rob Henry likely will step into the No. 2 role.
"We are disappointed to learn the news about Caleb, but the football program, his teammates and Boilermaker Nation are going to rally around him and support him," coach Danny Hope said in a statement. "There are guys that he interacts with on a daily basis who have been where he is and proven there is a way back to earning the privilege to play on Saturdays. Our program remains committed to the success of Caleb and all our football players."
TerBush will remain on scholarship and will practice with the team.
