Joe Holland doesn't sing well.
But that doesn't stop him from hitting the karaoke stage and belting out a wide-range of songs.
For more on Holland's song choices, his trip to Vegas in May and why he has a lava lamp in his closet, check out his answers to the random questions.
We chatted earlier this month at the team's media day.
When was the last time you pulled an all-nighter? I used to do that a lot when I was in like seventh, eighth grade. Any time I spent the night at someone's house, I was not going to go to sleep because if I did, it'd get like ketchup poured on me or something. So it's been a while, probably freshman year or high school.
(Dan Dierking, sitting next to Holland, says "Vegas.") Actually, yes, thank you, Danny. Las Vegas in May, this past May. That was my last all-nighter. I recovered about three days ago.
Who did you go with? I went with a couple of my friends from high school. It was a we-all-turned-21 trip to Vegas.
I don't know if I want to know those details. Let's dig a little deeper. Go ahead. Ask me how much money I won?
How much did you win? Four hundred dollars.
What did you spend it on? I think I still have a lot of it. I'm not a big spender. I'm frugal.
How much did you have to spend to win the $400? I had a big first day and got up, I had about $150 that I said, 'This is my money to gamble with.' Within a couple of hours, I turned it into $700. I got hot on the craps tables. So then I put $300 of that aside and ended up losing the rest of it.
What word makes you cringe? Cotton balls. Can't stand cotton balls.
What happens when you die? You go to heaven.
What's in your closet? A drum set for Guitar Hero, a lot of sweatshirts, occasionally Danny Dierking, some posters and a lava lamp.
You have a lava lamp in your closet? Well, I'm not going to actually have a lava lamp in my room. I'm not going to put that on display.
What's the most important feature on a car? That's a difficult question. The color probably.
What color do you have? I have a navy blue car, and it's pretty sleek.
What's been the weirdest fan request? I always think it's funny when fans ask me for, like, my helmet after a game, as if I'm not going to need it anymore. When we beat Ohio State, it was just mayhem. I think a couple fans asked for my shoulder pads, helmet, as if the season was over. 'That's it! We did it! It's all over!' I'd say a lot of essential equipment is probably the weirdest fan request.
Do you karaoke? Love it. Absolutely.
What's your favorite song to karaoke? I'm really a renaissance man when it comes to karaoke. I can handle a lot of genres. I could get up there and do 'Dancing in the Moonlight' by Van Morrison or I could get up there and do Too $hort('s) 'Gettin' It.' I have a wide range of what I can do.
Can anyone attest to your talent? Are you skilled at karaoke? I am not a good singer. I would say it's more that I know more lyrics, so I don't have to spend a whole lot of time looking at the monitor, so I get a little more crowd interaction, which people seem to like.
