The TinCaps and the San Diego Padres renewed their player development contract. The two-year extension runs through the 2012 season.

This is Fort Wayne's 12th season as a San Diego affiliate. Fort Wayne has made the playoffs in seven of those seasons.

"We're happy to continue our relationship with the Padres. They have been a big part of this franchise's success over the last several years and we've really enjoyed working with the player development staff," TinCaps president Mike Nutter said in a statement. "The Padres have been a tremendous partner for over a decade and we look forward to more success on and off the field."

The team scheduled a news conference for Thursday afternoon.
