Robert Marve woke up Monday with jitters, feeling nervous.

"I think this is the first week I kind of woke up with butterflies on a Monday," Marve said. "I don't know what happened. ... Felt like that day was game day."

Instead, Marve has to wait more to make his Purdue debut.

He displayed only confidence while speaking with the reporters Tuesday, saying he knew Notre Dame was the first game on the Purdue's schedule even before he committed to the Boilermakers.

He loves the opportunity to open the season against a rival on national television. For his team and himself.

"I'm looking forward to showing everybody what I've got," he said. "I'm looking forward for Purdue. It's an exciting time for the program, for coach (Danny) Hope and all the players."

Marve said all the right things for a quarterback.

He said he has to take the game "one play at a time" and not force throws, saying it's always good to "live for the next down."

He said he has to take what the defense gives him.

He said he likes where the offense is at with the amount of options -- though admittedly, he'd like to have Ralph Bolden in the backfield -- and he said he has a good grasp of the offense.

He said his experience at playing in front of large, hostile crowds -- his first-ever start in college was at Florida -- will benefit him and he'll use that to try to help prepare teammates.

"Everybody talks about talent this and that, but I just want to be the best teammate I can be," Marve said. "I want to have fun, and I want to put the best product of me on the field. That's what I'm looking for. I worked hard. I got my knee back, and I'm 100 percent. Coach (Gary) Nord has done a great job kind of slowing down the offense for me, and now I've got it under control where I can know the whole offense. It helps me.

"It's an exciting time for me. I'm looking forward to it. When I was out there as a freshman, everything was fast and crazy. Now, the game has slowed down for me a little bit. I'm going to do everything I possibly can for Purdue to win the game."

• Marve is sporting a short hair cut these days. He spent the last year growing his hair long -- check out his head shot from an earlier post in the blog -- but recently got it cropped close. Though it was originially published in some places that Marve was made to get his hair cut, he said that wasn't the case.

  "My mom was a little mad at me. She liked the curls," he said with a smile. "I never had my hair long anyway. I got to Indiana. I said, 'I'm not in the city anymore, so just try something new out.' Kind of got tired of it and it got old, so I cut it."
