•The Central High School Class of 1955 is having a reunion dinner at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 18 at Don Hall’s Guesthouse, 1313 W. Washington Center Road. Awards and recognition

Ashley Porter-Szabo, who receives services from Easter Seals Arc and is an advocate and lobbyist for people with disabilities, was given the EP Maxwell J. Schleifer Distinguished Service Award. The award is given for remarkable accomplishments that can be achieved under difficult circumstances.

Sydney Hurley of Fort Wayne was crowned Miss Indiana Jr. High Rodeo Princess and also won Miss Congeniality, the Horsemanship Award and 2010 Rookie of the Year.

Feeding the hungry

Comfort Keepers is participating in the STOP Hunger food drive by having a “Battle of the Banks” through Sept. 30. Donations can be made at several Star Financial Banks, Grabill Banks and Old National Banks. Donations can also be made at Elegant Occasions Bingo, 14722 Lima Road, and Cosmos Restaurant, 1425 W. Washington Center Road. Proceeds from the event benefit Community Harvest Food Bank’s efforts to feed more than 1,000 homebound seniors in the area. For information, call 484-5858.

•The Bishop Luers High School Alumni Office is seeking nominations for its new Distinguished Knight Award. The outstanding alumnus and honorary alumnus awards will be given to a Bishop Luers graduate who has contributed outstanding and distinguished service to their chosen profession and community.
