A man claiming to have a gun robbed a south-side drugstore of prescription painkillers, according to a Fort Wayne police report. The man approached the pharmacy counter in Walgreens at 222 E. Pettit Ave.Six people at a south-side home were alerted to a fire by a smoke detector and escaped the house without injury early Saturday morning, according to the Fort Wayne Fire Department.
Firefighters were called at 12:45 a.m. to 4333 Avondale Dr.
When they arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from the one-story house. Firefighters had the blaze under control in 16 minutes.
The living room and kitchen area sustained heavy fire damage.
Cause of the fire is under investigation, firefighters said.
