Caucus picks new mayor for Mishawaka

MISHAWAKA. – A veteran city councilman has been elected the new leader of a northern Indiana city, replacing a mayor who is stepping down to become president of an area business group.

A Republican Party caucus on Thursday elected Dave Wood as the new mayor of Mishawaka. St. Joseph County GOP chairman Chris Riley tells the South Bend Tribune that Wood received 13 votes from among the 20 precinct committee members voting.

Wood has been a member of the City Council for 11 years and is an assistant vice president with 1st Source Bank. He'll be sworn in next week to replace Jeff Rea as leader of the 50,000-person city and have a term running through 2011.

Rea is becoming president and CEO of the St. Joseph County Chamber of Commerce.
