Woman dies days after buggy crash

CLEVELAND – Authorities said an Amish woman has died several days after she was injured in a buggy crash in northeast Ohio.

Barbara Kauffman was eight months pregnant and traveling with her husband and children when a sports-utility vehicle rear-ended the buggy Wednesday.

Ohio State Highway Patrol Sgt. Chad Bass said Kauffman, 31, died Sunday afternoon, after giving birth to a boy Thursday. An autopsy is planned to determine the cause of her death.

The infant was in fair condition at a Cleveland hospital Sunday.

Bass said charges are pending against Julie Pirtz, who was driving the SUV.
