Hoosiers’ offense awes rival coach

– Towson coach Rob Ambrose isn’t sure how good Indiana will be.

“But I do know this: They’re going to score more than 30 points a game in the Big Ten this year,” Ambrose said. “They are very, very tough to stop.”

Ambrose’s Tigers found out firsthand as the Hoosiers topped Towson 51-17 in Thursday’s season opener.

IU did exactly what it was supposed to against a Football Championship Subdivision foe – jump on them early.

Two first-quarter turnovers by the Tigers turned into two touchdowns for the Hoosiers. A late field goal made it 17-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The 51 points were the most the Hoosiers have scored since defeating Indiana State 55-7 in the 2007 season opener. IU had 38 points in the first half, the most since scoring 42 in the first half of a 2001 game at Northwestern.

IU had to be excited about the way Darius Willis ran. The sophomore rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns.

Indiana fans hope it’s the start of a successful run this season.
