Verbatim: New Haven mom wins $1 million lottery prize

Statement issued Wednesday:

INDIANAPOLIS – Stephanie Kline said her $1,000,000 prize in Hoosier Lottery’s Golden Ticket scratch-off would change little in her life, besides the balance of her student debts.

Kline, who traveled to Hoosier Lottery headquarters in Indianapolis September 7 with her husband, Joe, kept her excitement on a low simmer.

“It makes me feel great, of course,” she said, “but it doesn’t change my everyday. It will be great to pay off all my bills though.”

Kline said she also plans on establishing a college fund for her 16-month-old son.

Her win came September 4 when she went to Lassus Brothers Oil at 633 Broadway in New Haven to cash in $30 in scratch-off tickets. She said she decided to buy the $20 ticket at the spur of the moment.

“I might go weeks without playing the lottery. I don’t know, I just decided to buy it,” she said.

“Just dumb luck,” added Joe.

The Hoosier Lottery reminds players to always play responsibly, and to always sign the back of their tickets.
