LEWISTON, Mich. – A man and woman were found shot to death in northern Michigan, and the suspect drove 300 miles to Chain OLakes State Park near Albion, Ind., where he shot himself in the head and later died, authorities said Tuesday.
The victims were a 70-year-old man and an 82-year-old woman. The alleged shooter, Louis Tantalo of neighboring Otsego County, was related to one of them, the Montmorency County Sheriffs Department said.
Deputies found the man and woman at a home Monday in Lewiston, 90 miles south of the tip of the Lower Peninsula.
Tantalo, 50, was discovered Sunday in his car with a gunshot wound to the head at the state park south of Albion, Indiana conservation officers said.
Emergency workers were called to a park pavilion about 1:20 p.m. Sunday after a woman visiting the park noticed a man in a parked vehicle who needed help, according to a statement from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
The woman notified a park employee, who called 911. Indiana park officials said the man left a suicide note.
He died eight hours later at Fort Waynes Parkview Hospital.
The names of the two victims were not released.
A message seeking additional information was left for the Montmorency sheriff.
