NEW HAVEN – Despite coaching a Class 4A program and at the largest school in the NECC, Angola first-year coach Andy Thomas is still dealing with a numbers crunch.

Too many penalties for Wayne

His team had cemented a 19-12 victory at North Side, but Wayne coach Kyle Beauchamp was mulling, and stewing, over the 15 penalties for 132 yards that were assessed to his 3-1 team. In fairness, the penalties were going both ways; North Side (2-2) drew 11 for 121 yards.

"It's going to be addressed," Beauchamp said. "I'm not very happy about it. That's just one of those things we're going to have to make a focal point about that. We'll go back and look at the film, but it's something we've got to correct."

Devon White, a senior, who had an 81-yard punt return for a touchdown, and an interception, agreed the penalties must be averted.

"Yeah, there were a lot of penalties, but we played through it," White said. "We tried to play strong and kept our heads in it. ... It was a lot."
