Statement issued Tuesday morning:
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Over 200 tickets have become available for stand-by patrons wishing to attend the first Omnibus Lecture with Sean Astin, tonight at 7:30 p.m., in the Rhinehart Music Center at Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW). People are encouraged to arrive by the time doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets will be handed out to those in the stand-by line until they are gone.
“On Acting, Leadership, and Other ‘Very Important’ Stuff,” is the title of the lecture featuring actor and activist Sean Astin. Astin will always be “Mikey” in the popular classic, The Goonies, and will forever be remembered for portraying Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Yet, the character and film for which he is singularly
identified is Rudy—the 1993 box office hit featuring him as a working-class dreamer and inspirational underdog in the Fighting Irish football program at Notre Dame. Astin’s portrayal of Rudy has been lauded by critics, teachers, coaches, athletes, and others for capturing imaginations and encouraging people to work hard and dream big.
Due to campus construction, attendees should plan to arrive early, allowing additional time for traffic and parking. Only drop-off and eight handicapped parking spaces will be available directly in front of the music center building.
