When Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly talked about the final play of Saturday's 28-24 loss to Michigan after the game, he said the Irish defense looked like it ran out of gas after being on the field for more than 34 minutes.
But after watching the game film, the coach said he is backing off that statement, which he wasn't going to let his players use as an excuse anyway.
"We were in position to make some plays, and we need to make them," Kelly said. "We also got to obviously put our kids in position to make them. It is both on the players and coaches in that situation to do a better job. As I got a chance to watch the film and really look at that last drive, that's kind of where I am today on it."
