Landing in East Lansing

Arrived in East Lansing, Mich., with the minimal of trouble and after circling Michigan State's campus even found where I was assigned to park.

So, good start to the evening.

A few Irish and Spartans players have taken the field, and the students have settled into their section with a little more than an hour before kickoff.

The Irish's travel roster includes seven freshmen (Austin Collinsworth, Bennett Jackson, TJ Jones, Tommy Rees, Prince Shembo, Danny Spond and Lo Wood). Also making the trip is walk-on safety Chris Salvi, who is probably an extra insurance policy at the spot with Jamoris Slaughter (ankle) available in an emergency situation and Dan McCarthy (hamstring) only being announced OK to play on Thursday.

On the drive up, I started hedging on the prediction I made on the video preview for this game Saturday.

Michigan State (2-0) is a 3 ½ point favorite, but that's really just the home-team discount on odds, and the Spartans will have all three running backs available tonight.

But I stick to what I said before with Notre Dame (1-1) pulling off the road win in its first trip of the season by a touchdown.

Be back with more later.
