Boiler Bits: Jason Werner

Sixth-year senior linebacker Jason Werner took time after practice this week to answer some random questions.

When was the last time you pulled an all-nighter? Probably sometime this summer. All my friends live in different states, so anytime we all get together, we have a hard time ever really going to sleep. We just have so much catching up to do, down at the lake house, just sit up all night and talk.

What word makes you cringe? The German word for milk, "milch." It's disgusting. I hate it.

Where does that even come from? German class. I took three years of German. I could never say it because it's disgusting.

What do you think happens when you die? I'm putting a lot of faith in the fact that our spirits and our souls go somewhere else, into a greater place, heaven. That's what I'm banking on, so it better be.

What's in your closet? A lot of clothes and shoes.

Are you a preppy guy? What kind of clothes? I do like to dress nice. I wouldn't call it preppy, but I have nice clothes, I'd like to think.

Preppy kind of has a negative connotation. Exactly. I wouldn't say too preppy. I love getting new clothes and keeping them nice.

Sneaker man? All kinds of shoes. Sneakers and a lot of nice dress shoes.

What's the most important feature on a car? The stereo. I love music a lot, and I don't really care what car I have as long as the stereo sounds great.

Do you do karaoke? I have done it one time in my life, and it was this past summer. My friend Lauren can sing really, really good. She was in a contest, but the beginning of the contest, they let people go up and do it. So I got a chance to do it.

What did you sing? I sang Boyz II Men, "End of the Road."

How did you do? I did fantastic. I don't know what everybody else thought, but I thought I hit all the notes perfectly, and I think my actual performance was really good.

So maybe more karaoking in the future? I definitely would. It's kind of nerve-wracking, but I think I did good. I'm not afraid to do it again.

What's the weirdest fan request you've gotten? I've had some people come ask me to come over and help their kids practice football, which is not weird, it's just a stretch sometimes. I wouldn't call it weird. But as far as a request.

Have you done anything like that? No. Sometimes fans come up with neat requests, like 'Can you speak to our kids?' That stuff is fun. That stuff comes along with the territory that you enjoy. But some are kind of different. 'My kid is a third-grader. Would you come spend hours a week with him and practice football?' You're just like, 'I can't do that.' Probably somewhere there's a little rule eliminating that. (laughs)
