Evansville up in the air

While I think most of us have assumed that the Evansville Icemen will be the tenant in a new arena in that city next year -- that is the bill of goods IHL and Central Hockey League insiders kept touting -- it seems that is far from the truth.

According to WTVW, there are three leagues still vying to be tenants in the arena -- the CHL, ECHL and junior-level United States Hockey League -- and the CHL will be given no "special consideration."

It's a perfectly fair argument that the Icemen are making; they are already entrenched in the community and will be more so once CHL play begins. (The Icemen will skate at McMillen Arena-sized Swonder Arena this season.)

However, this must be frightening for the CHL, which really needs Evansville geographically. Arenas tend to choose who they want as tenants, and who will cede to their lease terms, not who the fans necessarily are accustomed to seeing.
