Irish running back nursing injury

Notre Dame backup running back Jonas Gray will be eased into practice this week, according to coach Brian Kelly.

Gray strained his groin Saturday's 37-14 loss to No. 9 Stanford and will not practice Tuesday, Kelly said during his Sunday teleconference. Gray ran for 12 yards on four carries, supplementing Cierre Wood as the second options at running back against the Cardinal.

"They are a little concerned about him right now," Kelly said.

The rest of the Irish appear OK heading into this weekend's road game against Boston College, including linebacker Darius Fleming and tight end Kyle Rudolph.

Fleming and Rudolph missed some playing time against the Cardinal on Saturday. Rudolph had offseason shoulder surgery and was slowed during training camp with hamstring injury.

"We were a little concerned with Fleming," Kelly said. "He came out good and was able to get back in the game.

"I don't think (Rudolph) was feeling 100 percent. We all know he has been battling being at 100 percent. We thought we were getting closer and closer. He is trying to get back to where he was. I think he still has some work to do."
