Statement issued Wednesday:
Fort Wayne, Ind. – To encourage physical fitness, Indiana Tech has added marked walking trails to its main campus.
"We wanted to do something to inspire people to move around more by offering convenient trails that they may already be walking on a daily basis," explained Kirsta Solberg, director of Indiana Tech's Wellness Center. "The trails can help make this more intentional and make people aware that making so many loops around the campus per day could increase the number of miles they are walking per day."
There are four trails marked on the Indiana Tech campus, and each is represented by a color and name on wooden posts along the way:
•The Trainer Warrior trail is the shortest trail and is represented with yellow post markers. This trail loops around Schaefer Center and Andorfer Commons. Three laps around the trail equal about 1 mile.
•The Expert Warrior trail is represented by green post markers and makes a figure eight through the center of campus and around the Wilfred Uytengsu Sr. Center. Two laps around the trail equal about 1 mile.
•The Master Warrior trail is represented by blue post markers. The trail loops around Pierson Center and Zollner Engineering Center, and two laps equal about 1 mile.
•The Ultra Warrior trail is represented by red post markers and is the longest of the trails.
This trail loops around the perimeter of campus from University Street down to Anthony Boulevard and back. One lap equals about 1 mile
Solberg has organized a poker walk to celebrate the recent installation of the trail markers. The event from 5:15 to 7 p.m. Thursday will give participants a chance to explore the new trails while competing for prizes. Free T-shirts will be available while supplies last.
Maps of the campus walking trails are available at the Wellness Center (inside the Schaefer Center) or online at www.IndianaTech.edu/athletics/wellness.
