Carroll-Northrop keep it friendly

The Carroll-Northrop tennis rivalry is the textbook example of friendly.

"All of these kids are friends," Northrop coach Shane Crager said. "They all play at Pine Ridge. (Northrop No. 2 player Sam) Oren has relatives at Carroll. My daughter goes to Carroll, so I will have kids from Northrop and Carroll all at my house. They are all neat kids."

The Chargers slipped past the Bruins 3-2 in the first round of the Carroll Tennis Sectional. Despite the match already being decided, Oren and Carroll's Luke Garrison continued to battle at No. 2 singles before Oren won 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.

"He really wanted to win that match tonight," Crager said. "They take it to heart, and they really want to beat each other. Not in a bad way. They will probably be hanging out later tonight together, calling each other or talking on Facebook."
