Warsaw, Winona Lake K-9 teams win honors

Warsaw and Winona Lake police officers along with their police dogs competed in the 11th Annual American Working Dog K-9 Olympics, according to local police officials.

Officers and their dogs participated in the competition from Aug. 23 to 27 in Denver, Ind.

Warsaw Cpl. Joel Beam and dog Buddy, Warsaw Cpl. Allen Danko and dog Pako and Winona Lake officer Joe Bumbaugh and dog Hugo placed second in an overall team competition.

That competition included obstacle courses, people tracking and bite work. In the individual competition, Bumbaugh and Hugo placed first in the overall dual purpose category. Danko and Pako placed third in that category. Bumbaugh and Hugo also placed second in the warehouse narcotic detection category and third in the control competition.

More than 120 teams from local, state and federal levels participated in the Olympics.
