Evansville soon to hear hockey pitches

EVANSVILLE – Officials say three hockey leagues or teams have shown interest in having a team play at the new arena being built in downtown Evansville.

Arena project director John Kish said he expected the three organizations to make formal presentations Wednesday to an advisory committee that will recommend a pick.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports that planners want a hockey team to help add to the number of events in the 11,000-seat arena that is expected to be open late next year.

Ron Geary says the prospect of playing in the new arena made it possible for the Evansville IceMen team he owns to become part of the Central Hockey League starting this season. The CHL includes the Fort Wayne Komets.
