A U.S. Postal Service carrier escaped unharmed when her sport utility vehicle went up in flames Wednesday while she was delivering mail, according to Aboite Township firefighters.
Firefighters were called about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday to a street in the Old Orchard Lake subdivision off Amber Road.
The postal carrier was driving her personal SUV, which she uses to deliver mail, when the engine started smoking. She was able to remove most of the mail from the vehicle before it burst into flames, firefighters said.
No injuries were reported, but the vehicle was a total loss.
