Even though the Central Hockey League decided not to retain Brad Jones, who served as the IHL's vice-president of hockey operations and league disciplinarian last season, there will be some familiar faces when it comes to officiating this season.
CHL commissioner Duane Lewis said the league has a list of 154 officials, several of whom worked games in the IHL last season.
Unfortunately, I don't have specific names, but I have a feeling we haven't seen the last of Jim Hawthorne and company.
I did find it interesting to learn that the CHL has six full-time referees and eight full-time linesmen.
So who is the Brad Jones of the CHL? The guy who mandates officiating guidelines and determines suspensions is former NHL player and coach Jim Wiley.
You may recall, he coached against the Komets in the old IHL with Kansas City and in the UHL with the Roanoke Valley Vipers.
- Lewis will attend the Komets' regular-season opener Oct. 16 vs. CHL-champion Rapid City.
