From the meetings

The following determinations have been made by the Central Hockey League's Board of Governors:

  • There will be a new tiebreaking procedure this season, particularly relevant since 16 teams -- 16 of 18!! -- will make the postseason. The first tiebreaker will be victories, but they will exclude wins via shootouts. The second tiebreaker will be head-to-head records.
  • The CHL will now enforce a major penalty and a game misconduct for a lateral or blindside hit to an opponent where the head is targeted or the principal point of contact.
  • They will scrape the ice prior to overtime shootouts now.
By the way, I alluded earlier to the possibility of seeing referee Jim Hawthorne in CHL games this season. A little birdie told me that won't be the case. Craig Welker on the other hand ...

We'll just have to wait and see.
