Komets drop final exhibition game

Dayton’s Ernie Stewart and Erik Boisvert had two goals apiece to beat the visiting Komets 6-1 in the exhibition finale Saturday.

Fort Wayne beat the Gems 3-2 in the exhibition opener Thursday. The Komets open the regular season next Saturday against Rapid City at home.

Dayton jumped to a 3-0 lead on goals by Stewart, Boisvert and Nathan Oke.

Fort Wayne followed with its only goal when Brandon Naurato scored on a power play off assists from Matt Ward and Tyler Fletcher.

But Dayton responded, scoring three times in the third period.

Stewart had an unassisted goal early; Boisvert scored off a pass from Tom Boudreau at the 7:25 mark; and Tyler Czuba had the capper on a power play with 2:25 remaining.

Fort Wayne’s Nick Boucher had 24 saves. Dayton’s Jeff Jakaitis had 30.
