Fort Wayne Police Chief Rusty York has established official hours for trick-or-treat for Halloween 2010.
Trick-or-treat will be observed in the city from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31.
Trick-or-treaters should visit homes with an illuminated exterior front light (porch light) indicating that trick-or-treaters are welcome, according to a written statement.
Trick-or-treaters are urged to follow some safety rules:
•Wear reflective clothing.
•Travel in groups composed of at least one adult.
•Refrain from consuming treats until inspected by an adult.
•Cross streets only at crosswalks.
•Do not wear costumes that obscure your vision.
•Do not enter a stranger’s home
•Be prepared for adverse weather
Beginning at 4 p.m. Oct. 31 at the Roanoke Town Hall, children will gather to be escorted by the fire truck in a parade through downtown, ending at Roanoke Brethren Church.
Judging will take place for a $25 cash prize in each of the following categories: Funniest, Scariest and Most Unusual.
There will also be games with prizes, candy, hot dogs, and hot chocolate.
From 5 to 6 p.m., Trunk or Treat will take place in the church parking lot. Members of the church will decorate their car trunks and hand out candy to trick or treaters.
This event is sponsored by the Roanoke Chamber of Commerce, Roanoke Fire Department and the church.
