Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly and his staff are not allowed to talk about potential recruits until February's signing day.
But on Thursday, Kelly did talk about his philosophy on handling players who de-commit.
"I told our staff unless I see a letter of intent; you need to keep recruiting them," Kelly said. "Certainly, we all would like to say the value of a person's word is their bond, but there are so many moving and shifting pieces out there, I'm not tripping over that. Would I like somebody to be that guy that says, 'Hey, that's my word, it's a bond and we're not going to break it. Certainly. Because we are not going to do it on our end.
"I told our staff, you got to keep recruiting. It's the University of Notre Dame, nobody is going to give it to you for free. All the players that have committed, we have to keep recruiting."
Notre Dame did suffer a de-commitment this week when offensive tackle Jordan Prestwood backed out of his oral commitment.
The three-star recruit has told publications that Notre Dame is still in the mix, but he is also considering Florida and Florida State.
