Questions human beings were not meant to answer

Today's example: Why, when a guy acts like a bum/creep/borderline sexual deviant and gets arrested/suspended/benched, do fans give him a rousing standing ovation when he comes back?

Not to name any names, but is it because Ben Roethlisberger is a naturally likeable guy, except for the bum/creep/borderline sexual deviant part? Is it because fans just naturally have a forgiving nature?

Or does it have something to do with the fact the man has a cannon for an arm and two Super Bowl rings, and without him the Steelers have no chance to get back to the Super Bowl?

Nah. Couldn't be that.
