I got this information from a reader:

On Sept. 27, the McCurdy family experienced an unthinkable tragedy.

Amy McCurdy, 38, was killed in a car accident.

Amy was a loving mother to five children and a dedicated wife to her husband, Russ, whom she had been with since they were 16 years old. Like so many mothers, she was the glue that held her family together.

Amy was constantly on the go, running her children to and from activities. Amy provided a stable environment while Russ tirelessly worked 24-hour shifts as a firefighter and then, on his off-days and weekends, was a pilot/flight instructor to provide additional income for his family.

This terrible tragedy has provided an opportunity for the community to come together and help out.

On Nov. 6, there will be a benefit for the McCurdy family. The benefit will take place at O'sullivans Italian Pub on Main Street. The night will begin at 6 p.m. and go until around midnight.

Raffle tickets are being sold and there will be items up for auction. Live music will start at 6:30 p.m.

Of particular interest to readers of this blog, a game-worn jersey donated by former Komet Kevin Bertram will be up for auction. Kevin has offered to autograph the jersey should the winner want that. To have a chance at the jersey, you would need to go to O'sullivans on Nov. 6.

There are other items up for raffle, and tickets can be bought at fire station 10, located at Crescent Avenue and North Anthony Boulevard.

A large crowd is expected at O'Sullivans, so you may want to arrive early.
