... or in other words, the splash made by Sports Illustrated's public confession by a sports agent that he was involved in illegally signing college talent while it was still ostensibly collegiate was not exactly anyone dropping their eyeteeth in the water.

Big-time college sports never really has been and never really will be an amateur enterprise, anymore than the modern Olympics ever were. It's big business (pause here to let the shock sink in). And as such, the talent will always find a way to get compensated one way or another.
