Verbatim: Marine, power sport cover maker chooses Fort Wayne

Statement issued Wednesday:

Fort Wayne, Ind. (October 27, 2010) — DOWCO Inc. announced today that it will begin operations at 2827 Freeman Street. The company, which specializes in covers, canopies and accessories for the marine and personal vehicle industries, has made a significant investment in the project, which will add 10 new jobs to the local Fort Wayne economy.

“Not only will starting operations in Fort Wayne bring us closer to clients in Michigan, northern Ohio and northern Indiana, but it is also an opportunity to take advantage of the city’s favorable business environment,” said Kevin Rolain, vice president of operations for DOWCO.

DOWCO is a manufacturer of products for the power sports OEM, power sports after market and recreational marine markets. Its Fort Wayne facility will be home to cut and sew operations for the company. DOWCO will locate in the former Crosby Complex, found at 2827 Freeman Street. Fletcher Moppert of The Shepherd Group is handling the real estate transaction on behalf of DOWCO.

The Fort Wayne-Allen County Economic Development Alliance assisted DOWCO in its search for a building within the city. DOWCO’s new facility is located within the City of Fort Wayne’s Urban Enterprise Zone, which is a 3.99 square mile area located in the central part of Fort Wayne. A company or individual located within the Urban Enterprise Zone and has acquired Enterprise Zone designation may be entitled to certain tax benefits.

“We are looking forward to working with DOWCO and sharing with them all of the benefits and opportunities available to companies that locate within the Urban Enterprise Zone,” said Kirk Moriarty, director of the Fort Wayne Urban Enterprise Association. “This is a company that is well-suited for continued growth and is committed to developing in Fort Wayne.”

DOWCO will host a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday at 10:00 A.M. to celebrate the opening of its new facility. Fort Wayne City Councilwoman Liz Brown is scheduled to speak at the event. For information on the ceremony, contact Lindsey Melchi at 260.426.5568, or
