Rock Island (Ill.) guard Chasson Randle chose Stanford on Wednesday over Purdue and Illinois.
Randle announced his decision late Wednesday afternoon.
"I chose Stanford because the program is growing and it's a great fit both academically and athletically," said Randle, who has a 4.0 GPA. "I wanted the chance to learn the point guard position from one of the greats in coach (Johnny) Dawkins (Duke's second all-time leading scorer)."
Though Randle's character would have been a nice fit for the Boilermakers, he likely wouldn't have been a program-changer athletically.
Considering Purdue already has a scholarship issue for 2011 because of Robbie Hummel's redshirt -- with Jacob Lawson and Donnie Hale, the class is full -- this doesn't seem to be a huge blow. Even with that situation, there's still a chance Purdue adds another player for 2011. Goldandblack.com reported that big man Amir Williams, from Detroit, is going to visit campus this weekend.
