Voting clichés

If you don’t vote, don’t complain.

Every vote makes a difference.

People get the kind of government they deserve.

Some phrases become clichés because they are repeated so often they lose value. You may be tired of them – just as you may grow weary of the endless campaigning – but these three phrases about voting and government have never been more true.

Many readers are already familiar with national issues, and Hoosiers may have a big influence in who controls the House and Senate. Indiana voters will determine key tax policy and decide who will draw electoral districts that will affect elections the next decade. Allen County voters will select a judge, voters within the Fort Wayne Community Schools district will elect a majority of the school board, while voters in East Allen County Schools will cast ballots on a referendum that will shape the district’s future.

Northeast Indiana voters will see an unusually high – and welcome – number of truly competitive races, with qualified candidates giving voters true choices.

The opportunity to keep your right to complain and to make a difference comes Tuesday.
