Injury update

Running back Armando Allen will never play for Notre Dame again.

The senior, who leads the team in rushing this season, had surgery on one of his hips in Nashville, Tenn., and a second one to fix the other hip is likely.

"There was a lot of things in there that showed that was an injury he has had for many, many, many years," coach Brian Kelly said Thursday. "They are talking about the time table to be three or four months."

There was some good injury news, linebacker Prince Shembo, who had a concussion, was cleared to play and practiced during the bye week.

Also, linebacker Carlo Calabrese will stay at Notre Dame over the weekend for treatment on his injured hamstring and is expected to be able to play against Utah on Nov. 13, Kelly said.
