State meet still on Bellmont star's mind

Bellmont's Class 3A volleyball state championships in 2007 and 2010 were somewhat similar.

Bellmont beat Brebeuf in three straight games, 25-23, 25-14, 27-25 to win the latest title at Ball State on Saturday.

The 2007 state championship was a 25-16, 27-25, 25-23 sweep against Mishawaka Marian, also at Ball State.

"It was very similar to '07 when we won 25-23 in the final game," Bellmont coach Craig Krull said of the 2010 title. "It was a dogfight."

Also, Bellmont beat Brebeuf both times to help win the titles. In 2007, it was in the state semifinals while under a different format. It was in the finals in 2010.

Also, both Brebeuf and Mishawaka Marian were both making their second straight appearance in a state title match.

Bellmont celebrated the 2010 title with an impromtu pep session at the school's gym back in Decatur later Saturday night.
