New manager familiar with surroundings

New TinCaps manager Shawn Wooten is no stranger to the Midwest League.

He played in the league with Cedar Rapids in 1997.

"It was a good, competitive league. I know some of the ballparks have gotten better since I've played there so I'm excited about seeing the stadiums and the competition," Wooten said during a phone interview Tuesday.

"It's that first level where kids are going into their first long season or they are repeating so they are still really hungry, still excited about going out there and getting their work done and competing at a level. It's still early in their careers where you can still have a major influence on what they're doing, how they play their game and set the stones for their career. It's exciting to know you get these younger kids and kind of mold them to the organization and their philosophy and get them in the right direction."
