Here's why locking up Cody Zeller yesterday was such a stop-the-presses deal for Indiana and Tom Crean (and, no, not because Zeller is the second coming of Larry Bird, or even necessarily the first coming of Cody Zeller):
1. Crean finally landed the big in-state prize.
2. He beat out Butler for him, momentarily halting the perception that the Little School That Does has supplanted Indiana (and Purdue as well) as the premier college basketball program in The Basketball State.
3. He beat out North Carolina for him, momentarily halting the perception that you have to take a long breath between mentioning the likes of Carolina, Duke and Kentucky and mentioning Indiana.
4. Last but not least, the kid's 6-10 and can apparently play a bit. Which, you know, ain't bad, either.
