New Haven junior running back Te'Vaughn Hurse showed he can play with the big boys Friday despite a 42-26 regional loss to Class 4A No. 2 Bishop Dwenger.
The 5-foot-7, 175-pound Hurse ran for 247 yards and three touchdowns and also threw a scoring pass to Brandon Pease.
Hurse finishes with 2,942 yards this season, which is No. 7 on the IHSAA's list of best-ever single-season efforts.
Hurse, who missed 3,000 yards by 58, is right behind Josh Smith's 3,004 yards.
"We toughend up at the end, and we were making tackles on Te'Vaughn – sometimes," said Saints senior quarterback Patrick Ryan, who threw for 234 yards and three touchdowns and ran for a score. "We were getting it going. On offense, we knew we had to keep scoring because Te'Vaughn had a big night, and we knew we needed some points."
