IPFW wins opener

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Frank Gaines and Zach Plackemeier scored 16 points each to lead IPFW to a 70-55 victory over Southern Illinois-Edwardsville on Friday night.

Gaines also had eight rebounds and Plackemeier and John Peckinpaugh each had seven for the Mastodons in the season opener for both schools. IPFW never trailed in the contest and led 23-9 just past the midway point of the first half.

Nikola Bundalo had 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Cougars, and Mark Yelovich had 15 points. Cornelius Chatt also had 12 points for SIU-Edwardsville, which got no closer to IPFW than eight points after the early going.
