Irish advance in NCAA women's soccer tournament

The Notre Dame women’s soccer team returned to a familiar spot Sunday.

The Irish defeated USC 4-0 at Alumni Stadium to advance the third round of the NCAA tournament for the seventh consecutive season and 15th time in program history.

Lauren Fowlkes had a goal and two assists in Sunday’s second-round game as the Irish posted a pair of goals in the opening 10 minutes.

Melissa Henderson had a goal and an assist for Notre Dame, and Rose Augustin and Adriana Leon each added a goal.

Notre Dame travels to Fetzer Field in Chapel Hill, NC, to take on North Carolina in the round of 16 on Saturday. The match is tentatively scheduled for 5 p.m.

The match is fifth consecutive season and the 10th time overall that Notre Dame and North Carolina will play each other in the tournament.
