JaJuan Johnson may not be shooting the ball well -- only three of seven -- but he's making up for it by hitting the boards and being a presence on the defensive end.
Johnson has 10 rebounds and five blocks -- to go with nine points -- as No. 14 Purdue leads Howard 37-21 at halftime.
Howard played a zone defense throughout the half, and Purdue seemed to have a tough time adjusting initially.
The Boilermakers made only 6 of their first 18 shots before finishing the half by hitting their final five, including three three-pointers.
Purdue had made 5 of 11 three-pointers. Ryne Smith, E'Twaun Moore, D.J. Byrd, Terone Johnson and John Hart all have one.
- By my count, coach Matt Painter has used 10 lineup combinations in the half. He started Lewis Jackson, Smith, Moore, JaJuan Johnson and Patrick Bade. He used a "big" lineup with JaJuan Johnson and Sandi Marcius for a bit but never had Johnson and Travis Carroll on the floor together. Carroll played only three minutes. Makes sense considering Howard was in a zone defense.
