Purdue just ran onto the court for warmups here in Mackey Arena and big man Sandi Marcius was part of the group jogging out.
Marcius missed the second exhibition game with an apparent ankle injury, but coach Matt Painter said it was a precautionary to keep him out of that game.
Marcius may be the X factor for the team this season. His play in the post could allow JaJuan Johnson to play more of the power forward spot.
Speaking of Johnson, I'm interested to see how well he shoots the ball today. He struggled hitting open shots from the perimeter in the second exhibition game, and he can't afford to do it often this season and have Purdue still win. That's simply the pressure that he and E'Twaun Moore are under now.
- Purdue is wearing gold uniforms with black trim.
- Freshman Anthony Johnson isn't participating in warmups. Painter announced on Saturday in a news release that he's redshirting Johnson this season. We'll ask Painter about the decision after the game. Johnson's shot selection was a bit suspect in the two exhibition games, but I would suspect Painter's decision was based more on Johnson taking a year to get stronger and get a greater understanding of Purdue's defensive philosophies.
- Will be interesting to see who is the starting point guard tonight. Junior Lewis Jackson got the nod in the exhibition opener, and sophomore Kelsey Barlow was the starter in game No. 2. Barlow played better starting than coming off the bench. Jackson was solid regardless. So maybe that's the answer right there.
