Bingham now head coach in Bridgeport

The firing of New York Islanders coach Scott Gordon has affected a former Komets coach.

Pat Bingham was elevated to head coach of the American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, after Jack Capuano left Bridgeport to become coach of the parent Islanders.

"I'm very excited for Jack and his opportunity with the Islanders," Bingham said in a statement. "This is not the most ideal situation to earn a head-coaching position, but I'm excited to have this role and look forward to leading the Sound Tigers from this point on."

Bingham has been an assistant coach with Bridgeport since 2005, save for the 2006-07 season, when he was 51-21-4 in his lone season as head coach with the Komets in the United Hockey League.

  • The Komets released defenseman David Cianfrini, who was scoreless in five games.
